House of Footy covers the latest AFL Draft news ahead of Monday night’s count

2024 Midfielder to shape Draft Night in three team Trade?

Could the fate of Daniel Curtin, James Leake, Nate Caddy, Connor O’Sullivan and many more rest on the shoulders of a 2024 draft prospect?

South Australian midfielder Sid Draper claimed the state’s MVP award at the U18 National Championships this year, despite his status as a bottom aged player, who only just turned 17 earlier this year.

With clubs lining up to secure Daniel Curtin with the Giants’ pick seven, Adelaide could pounce, but not on Curtin.

West Coast has offered their future first round pick to the Giants to secure Curtin, which would be the best trade return available to the club. However, should the Giants wish to remain in the top echelon of this year’s crop rather than waiting another 12 months to improve, Adelaide sit in pole position to satisfy their demands, holding picks 10, 14 and 20, as well as offering up their future second round pick.

The Crows could send picks to the Giants which will be used in tonight’s draft, while the Eagles would send their future first round pick to Adelaide, in order to secure Curtin at pick seven.

The Crows would enter 2024 with a potential top five pick courtesy of the Eagles, which could very well be enough to secure Draper, with his draft range likely to be inside the top three or four players of the 2024 Draft.

GWS’ ‘Curtin Call’ will define the first night of the 2023 AFL Draft.

Will Saints pounce on ruckman amid interest from Swans, Kangaroos?

St Kilda has reportedly done some homework on Northern Knights ruckman Will Green as the club eyes him with their first selection, currently pick 13.

Sydney has long been linked to Green, with talk they could select him with their first pick (12), while North Melbourne would likely be a threat if he falls to one of their three selections in the teens.

Sydney has been looking to move up from pick 12 with an eye on Connor O’Sullivan, using a future end of first round selection, tied to North Melbourne’s assistance package, while the two clubs have discussed a trade involving picks 17 and 18 heading to the Swans in return for pick 12.

The Saints will wait to see which prospects fall out of the top tier of the draft pool, with a number of options including Darcy Wilson, Harry DeMattia, Riley Hardeman and Koltyn Tholstrup all likely to come into consideration.

Suns’ picks up for grabs

Four trades are expected to go through once the clock starts ticking on Monday night, with Gold Coast set to deal pick 24 to Brisbane in exchange for picks 30 and 39, with Archer Reid likely to be in their sights.

Fremantle will secure the Suns’ pick 38 using multiple third round picks, whilst keeping their eye on pick 26 in the process.

St Kilda will receive pick 42 from Melbourne in exchange for a future third rounder, which will then be on traded with pick 40 to the Suns for pick 27.

Latest AFL Draft News:

Pies keen on mobile forwards, won’t take a ruckman

Pies’ Recruiting boss Derek Hine has confirmed the club will look at talls but a ruckman isn’t a priority for them at the draft. Will Green, Mitch Edwards and Taylor Goad had all been previously linked to the club after conducting a medical with Todd Goldstein and reaching out to Scott Lycett.

Logan Morris, Archer Reid and Arie Schoenmaker will all come into consideration for the club’s second pick, with Koltyn Tholstrup and Lance Collard on their wish list for the first night. Collingwood are considered likely bidders on Will Graham and Caiden Cleary.
