Young gun Zarlie Goldsworthy has praised her teammates following the announcement that she was this year’s rising star.

Nominated in Round Two for her performance against Melbourne, the second-year Giants star shared her excitement winning the award.

“I’m very humbled to win this award,” Goldsworthy said during Monday night’s W Awards.

“I’m incredibly lucky to be with a group I love so much. It’s a great bunch of girls and I’m incredibly lucky to be with them.”

It was a tight race for the award, with the 19-year-old claiming victory over the Sydney Swan’s Ally Morphett by just one point. The win marks the first time that a GWS Giants player was a named a Rising Star in both the women’s and men’s AFL competitions.

Ella Roberts from the West Coast Eagles finished third with 23, with Port Adelaide’s Matilda Scholz not far behind with 13. Rounding out the top five with Hawthorn’s Jasmine Fleming with seven votes.

“For all my family in Aubrey right now, I hope I made you proud,” she said.

“I love you all so much and thank you so much.”
